Château de Bizy

Bizy castle, hidden behind its century-old trees, offers visitors the pleasure of discovering the enchantment of its park and the majesty of its formal courtyard. Like the castle, the park is classified as a Historic Monument and features a water garden (currently being restored) evoking the baroque splendours of the 18th century. It includes the Neptune fountain with its lions, the Gribouille fountain, the stepped water cascade, the sea-horse fountain, the dolphin pool, etc.

The castle was built around 1741 by Contant d'Ivry for Fouquet, Duke of Belle Isle and Marshal of France. Famous for its stables, inspired by those in Versailles, Bizy was successively owned by King Louis XV, the Duke of Penthièvre and King Louis-Philippe. Baron Schickler retained the Belle Isle stables and built a new central building, in the style of the great Italian palaces, that can still be seen today.
The drawing rooms, renowned for their 18th century wood panelling and tapestries, contain souvenirs of the 1st Empire collected by the descendants of Marshal Suchet, Duke of Albuféra.
A collection of horse-drawn carriages can be seen in the outbuildings.
