Welcome to the discover of 1000 years of history of the Dauphine region !
Wilfrid de Virieu built a fortified place on the site in the year 1010 and called it as his own name : "Virieu".
Just near in the south from la Tour du Pin, between Lyon, Grenoble, Chambery, close from le lake of Paladru.
This historical monument with its garden "a la Francaise" is one of the most remarkable in the Dauphine region. Still inhabited, you will be welcome from end of march to october, and have a guided visit during an hour.
Animations are proposed during the periode of thematic journeys :
"Foires aux plantes" -plants days, second Thursday of May, "les Montgolfiades" - hot air balllons meeting during the last week-end of July, the "days of the Château de Virieu" during month of August, the national Patrimoine Journeys...
